hold fast that which is good.

1Thessalonians  5:21

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets* are gone out into the world. 1John 4:1

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of  good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these think on these things.  Philippians 4:8

I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them  which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and  hast found them liars: Revelation 2:2

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the  faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron; 1Titus 4:1-2

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false  teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the  Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 2 Peter 2:1-2

Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart. Jeremiah 14:14

I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.  I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I  have dreamed.  How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of  the deceit of their own heart; Jeremiah 23:21, 25 – 26

I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.  How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only? John 5:43 – 44

For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.  But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words? John 5:46 – 47

Ye shall walk after the LORD your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him. Jeremiah29:8

For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Let not your prophets and your diviners, that be in the midst of you, deceive you, neither hearken to your dreams which ye cause to be dreamed. For they prophesy falsely unto you in my name: I have not sent them, saith the LORD.  Isaiah 29: 8, 9

Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures.   Luke 24:45

The apostle cautioned the Thessalonians not to despise the gift of prophecy, and in the words, "Quench not the Spirit; despise not prophesyings; prove all things; hold fast that which is good," he enjoined a careful discrimination in distinguishing the false from the true. The Acts of the Apostles, page 263

Upon no finite being can we depend for guidance. The Rock of faith is the living presence of Christ in the church. Upon this the weakest may depend, and those who think themselves the strongest will prove to be the weakest, unless they make Christ their efficiency.

"Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm." Jeremiah. 17:5

The Lord is the Rock, His work is perfect; Deuteronomy. 32:4

"Blessed are all they that put their trust in Him."  Psalm 2:12.

The Desire of Ages, page 414

"Take heed, therefore, how ye hear" (Luke 8:18), is an admonition of Christ.

We are to hear for the sake of learning the truth, that we may walk in it. And again: "Take heed what ye hear" Mark 4:24

Examine closely, "prove all things" 1 Thessalonians. 5:21

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world" 1 John 4:1

This is the counsel of God; shall we heed it?
